CM Punk was determined to get another shot at MJF, and that’s exactly what he did on the February 9 episode of AEW Dynamite.
One week after “The Salt of the Earth” defeated Punk in Chicago, The Pinnacle threw a party to celebrate. The self-proclaimed uncrowned AEW World Champion gloated about his victory and stated that he wanted to challenge for the gold. But “The Best in the World” crashed the celebration and made it clear that he wanted a rematch.
MJF surprisingly gave him an opportunity by throwing down the challenge for a tag team bout — Punk and a partner of his choice would take on FTR. With a win, “The Second City Saint” would receive the right to face MJF again, but MJF added the caveat that his nemesis couldn’t pick his friends, Darby Allin and Sting, as his teammate.
Who on earth will @CMPunk choose at this last minute to tag with to take on #FTR???

Later in the show, Punk came to the stage for the tag team bout, and former AEW World Champion Jon Moxley joined him. The two fan-favorites proceeded to wage war with FTR in a hard-hitting bout. The former AEW World Tag Team Champions put Moxley through a table at ringside, and they had Punk on the verge of defeat at several points. In one highlight, FTR hit the Big Rig for a near fall.
Punk nearly clinched the win with the Anaconda Vise, but Tully Blanchard got involved and attacked “The Second City Saint” with his sweater. Punk responded by dropping the legend with the GTS. In the end, Punk earned the victory with another GTS, so he has clinched a rematch with MJF.
