Alisha Edwards On Her Ultimate X Match Experience: We Brought It To The Table, Put The Knockouts In The Spotlight

When it comes to the first-ever women’s Ultimate X match, Alisha Edwards made the most of her opportunity.

Alisha Edwards was the latest guest on The House of Hardcore podcast with Tommy Dreamer to discuss the Ultimate X match at IMPACT Wrestling‘s Hard to Kill. Edwards was a last-minute replacement for Rachael Ellering who couldn’t compete on the show.

“I was disappointed that I wasn’t part of the match because I thought that was the application to be involved in the match. But long story short, so I actually climbed up the truss, and I literally went to the X just to kind of show them that the girls can do it too. And hopefully, we could get that spot on the pay-per-view. And then fast forward six months later, bam, its first-ever Ultimate X match at Hard to Kill.”

Dreamer noted that he was sure that he wouldn’t be able to shimmy across the ropes on Ultimate X; Edwards agreed and stated that’s why she went across the ropes “koala style.”

“Oh, 100%! That’s why I did the koala style. I wasn’t sure what would have happened if we go –but I mean at that point, the adrenaline’s going, and you want to fight for a spot, so I mean, anything is possible.”

Alisha also revealed that Chris Sabin was one of the producers for the women’s Ultimate X match, which makes sense as he is one of the pioneers of that match type.

“Sabin was one of the producers of the match, which is one of the guys that have been probably in most of the Ultimate X matches. Don’t quote me on that; I don’t know the accurate history, but I would say he’s been in most of them. And he said that was probably one of the highest ones that he’s seen. So that kind of freaked us out a little bit.”

[Note: Sabin has been in the most Ultimate X matches at 17, and he’s also won the most with 8 victories.]

There were some insane bumps in the Ultimate X match and Dreamer mentioned the Sky High move from Jordynne Grace and Tasha Steelz that Edwards described as an “OMG moment” of the match.

“Oh my god. Yeah, the freakin sit out. Oh my gosh, I would say that was probably one of my OMG moments of the match like personally. Um, me taking a big friggin face bump off the thing was crazy. I like literally died. But yeah, it was very good. Once again, Lady Frost, she definitely went bigger than any of us kind of did, and just kind of pushed the gun to it, and I’m kind of glad she did it in the first-ever Ultimate X. I definitely think not only are we in history books for that match. I think we kind of brought what we want to bring to the table for the New Year as well for the Knockouts being in the spotlight.”
