Following William Regal’s shocking release from WWE earlier this week, the fan-favorite veteran took to social media to thank the company for his time there.
“Thank you to [WWE] for a wonderful 21 year run,” Regal said in a tweet sent out on Friday. “You gave a lad who was happy and in wonderland wrestling on a carnival have a charmed life for 21 years. No complaints and please no one waste time replying as I won’t have a bad word said against the company.”
In a follow-up message, Regal added that the company saved his life in 1999, and helped keep his family fed while taking him “all around the world,” and for that, Regal said, they would have his gratitude forever.
Regal had been with the company since 2000, when he returned after he had a brief run in WCW. After the end of his in-ring career, he transitioned to a behind-the-scenes role. He had been the on-screen general manager of NXT since 2014, but he hasn’t appeared on the show in the last few months.
Regal was one of the most respected members of WWE’s backstage team, and he had been viewed as one of the crucial players behind the scenes throughout the black-and-gold era of NXT. Prior to his release, Regal was working as a lead talent scout and WWE’s Director of Talent Development and Head of Global Recruiting. Regal had also served in a prominent on-screen role as the general manager of WWE NXT.

I will add that @WWE saved my life in 1999 when they didn’t need to, kept my family fed and took me all around the world. You have my gratitude forever. You allowed me to live a charmed life.
