1/7 WWE SmackDown Preview: Roman Reigns Returns, Tag Title Bout And More

The January 7 episode of WWE SmackDown was already set to be a special show, as the company previously announced that it would feature the return of WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns less than one week. In an update, WWE has added two matches to the card.

In a rematch from WWE Day 1, The Usos will defend the SmackDown Tag Team Championship against the New Day in a Street Fight. Jimmy and Jey Uso retained the titles against King Woods and Kofi Kingston at the event this past Saturday, but the challengers will get another shot at the gold.

Plus, Sami Zayn will face Rick Boogs, WWE Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura’s right-man. Zayn earned the right to challenge for Nakamura’s title by winning the 12 Days of Christmas gauntlet match on the December 24 episode of SmackDown.

A Confrontation of Champions: WWE Champion Brock Lesnar comes face-to-face with Universal Champion Roman Reigns

Universal Champion Roman Reigns has been medically cleared after testing positive for COVID ahead of WWE Day 1. His scheduled opponent Brock Lesnar was added to the WWE Championship Fatal 5-Way Match and went on to capture the title!

Meanwhile, after being fired as Special Council by the Head of the Table on the Dec. 17 edition of SmackDown, Paul Heyman reunited with The Beast on Raw as the Advocate was at the side of the new WWE Champion. Before the show went off the air, Lesnar warned Reigns that he was heading to the blue brand this week.
