Wednesday marked another rough day for WWE, as the company let go of a handful of superstars, the most prominent of which was William Regal.
In a recent report from Fightful Select, some more information was given for the releases, reporting that talent familiar with the WWE Performance Center, NXT, and NXT 2.0 have said that the WWE had been making moves that were being done directly to remove various Triple H hires from the company, including the cuts made from the company today. The report mentions that WWE had said that talent wouldn’t be affected by the cuts, but both Danny Burch and Timothy Thatcher were among those let go, signaling that they had made transitions to coaching at the WWE Performance Center as of late.
Scott Armstrong, one of the men released by WWE, oversaw the NXT refereeing staff, and was the one who was blamed for the awkward referee spots during Becky Lynch and Liv Morgan’s Day 1 match, according to the report. However, that wasn’t the cause for his release, and the report mentions that other promotions already seem to have their eye on bringing Armstrong into the fold.
Road Dogg, another man cut from the company on Wednesday, was seen as a huge “Triple H guy,” and his firing — along with Regal’s — continue the trend of WWE looking to move away completely from everything that NXT used to be. Dave Kapoor, also known as Rainjin Singh, had been with the WWE for 15 years was “unanimously liked and easy to work with” according to Fightful’s report.
Finally, perhaps the most surprising firing was William Regal. Fightful reports that he was recently scouting talent for the company according to the report. However, much like Road Dogg, Regal did have ties to Triple H and was a major factor in shaping NXT over the years.
