Imperium defended the NXT Tag Team Championship at WWE NXT WarGames; they put the titles on the line against Kyle O’Reilly and Von Wagner.
The challengers earned a shot at the titles by beating Legado del Fantasma the previous week on WWE NXT 2.0. At the pay-per-view, Imperium showcased the chemistry that propelled them to the top of the division, as they were perfectly in sync while they isolated their opponents at various points. Eventually, O’Reilly rallied, and Wagner made a hot tag.
The champions eventually gained the upper hand again and squashed a brief rally from O’Reilly with a springboard moonsaut from Fabian Aichner .

Aichner nearly passed out in a guillotine choke from O’Reilly, but in the end, Imperium put O’Reilly down with the Imperium bomb for the win. After the bout. Wagner seemingly turned on O’Reilly by trying to attack him, but the veteran had the betrayal scouted. He turned the tables and beat up his former partner. O’Reilly then said, “This is a brotherhood” while he did the classic Undisputed Era taunt.

With his WWE contract reportedly expiring this week, this outcome was certainly an interesting potential end to O’Reilly’s career with WWE.
