The WWE Universe still fondly remembers Jeff Hardy‘s ladder match with The Undertaker on Monday Night RAW back in 2002.
Jeff Hardy was the latest guest on The Broken Skull Sessions with Steve Austin to discuss his WWE career. When speaking on his WWE Undisputed Championship ladder match against The Undertaker on RAW, Hardy put over The Deadman big time for what he did for him in that match:
“I’m so grateful for him and what he did for me that night; that was incredible,” Jeff Hardy said. “I think I realized in that moment I can I can be a big star if I really want to commit to this thing wide open because even when RAW went off that night one of my favorite scenes is just I’m looking at my hand like ‘oh my god I can’t believe it’s just happened to me and the future is so bright,’ so yeah, it was just mind-blowing.”
It wasn’t long after this match that WWE released Jeff Hardy in 2003. Hardy says that came from turning down rehab because he failed a drug test:
“Yes. It’s weird you bring that up because I think Jim Ross was one who called me and it was the first time I was ever offered rehab because I failed a drug test,” Jeff Hardy said. “And I actually think you called me at some point in talking to me, I don’t know if you remember that or not. But it was the first time I denied rehab. And I was like, ‘Nah, I got this,’ but I was in denial of my issue…my problem. Yeah, and I threw all that away pretty much. But the possibility that could have came from that match alone because oh man it was to the stars, it was limitless. But yeah, it’s just the way my life’s been and this the roller coaster and I think I’ve experienced everything for a reason, but it was definitely a bad decision at that time and I just didn’t understand my denial.”
