Booker T knows first-hand that the Elimination Chamber is one of the most dangerous structures in professional wrestling.
During a recent episode of his Hall Of Fame podcast, Booker T looked back at the inaugural Elimination Chamber match, which he took part in at the 2002 Survivor Series pay-per-view alongside Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Chris Jericho, Kane and Rob Van Dam. Booker said he didn’t want to be in the match because he knew someone would ultimately get hurt, and explained how it was an interesting position to be in compared to some other matches.
”I did not want to be in that match. I swear to God, I did not want to be in that match, man. I knew somebody was going to get hurt, you could slip down and just kind of brace yourself and hit your elbow and literally be out for six months, that’s how much steel and grate was around [the structure]. It was nuts, it was a monstrosity. There’s no way you could’ve gone in that thing and not have gotten hurt.
“I love the business, I love it, dammit, somebody’s going to get messed up by the end of the night and perhaps never work again. People don’t really realize how serious that match was that night as far as there was no way around of going out there and being almost like a stuntman. You’re just going to take it and the pain is [there]. No matter what, you’re going out there and you’re going to be hurting the next morning. It was scary, bro.”
