Major League Wrestling is headed back to Mexico.
On Monday, Major League Wrestling announced its next event would be a supercard co-promoted by the MLW Azteca brand and The CRASH Lucha Libre in Mexico. The event is set to take place on December 3.
From MLW:
Major League Wrestling today announced its next event will take place in Tijuana, Mexico as a co-promotion with THE CRASH Lucha Libre featuring: MLW Azteca.
The super card will take place at the Auditorio Fausto Gutierrez on Friday night December 3rd. Tickets can be purchased at Super Boletos.
“December 3rd I will take MLW to Mexico for the best luchas in the world,” said MLW matchmaker Cesar Duran. “THE CRASH has a fantastic reputation for specular events and now we give the renegades a day of super luchas like never before!”
Duran, the owner of Azteca Underground, has been connected to rumors of an Azteca Underground lucha libre project since making his MLW debut May 5th.
Additional details on the card will be revealed in the days and weeks ahead.
Prior to the Azteca announcement, MLW hosted three consecutive tapings in Philadelphia this year (Battle Riot, Fightland and War Chamber). MLW owner Court Bauer recently told WrestleZone that the league would not return to Philadelphia in December due to a lack of open dates, but said the league already has dates planned at the 2300 Arena through 2022.
“And so from there we said okay, well, this was really one of our hottest markets. Let’s build this out and build this relationship out. So we’re here essentially, with like a residency, and we’ll pretty much be doing that monthly, except for December because they just have so many make-goods due to the pandemic that they couldn’t squeeze us in for that month. But we’ll be there, we have dates through 2022, so we’re gonna be expanding out and doing additional events,” Bauer said. “But this is gonna be essentially our home base to the point where, when we’re not running and the arena’s open, you’ll be able to go there and buy MLW T-shirts and stuff, just like you would to go to like a Yankees Stadium and buy shirts when there isn’t a game.”
