Brody King enjoys getting the chance to work alongside Malakai Black and hopes they could explore that relationship outside of the indies in the future.
During a recent appearance on Pro Wrestling 4 Life w/ Sean “X-Pac” Waltman, Brody King spoke about Malakai Black’s recent work, as well as their relationship with each other. King and Black will team up at Sunday’s Threemendous VII event in Los Angeles, but King took time to praise the current AEW star’s character work and how much effort he puts into making it all work.
“His whole, I don’t know, aura and vibe and everything is really awesome and he puts a lot of thought into it. I don’t think there’s one part of his character or his wrestling that isn’t completely thought out,” King said. “Nothing is missed on him, which is really awesome, I mean, he’s been a big help to me, and mentor to me, kind of like a big brother figure since I started. And I was always able to like send him matches and he would always kind of sit me down and be like, ‘This is what you’re doing wrong, this is what you need to do.’ So for me and him to kind of be teaming now and have that be a possibility is really awesome.”
As for possibly entering the “forbidden door” or working with Black elsewhere, King says that only extends to Pro Wrestling Guerrilla right now. King is currently working for Ring Of Honor, but he says he’d be open to have that freedom to work with other promotions in the future.
“For the time being, I think it’s definitely exclusive to PWG, but I like to push the boundaries a little bit. Even if, I don’t know what’s allowed and what’s not — I just kinda play within the bounds that I’m given. But it’s really awesome to go to New Japan, to be able to work guys like the Good Brothers, so you have this like IMPACT, Ring of Honor, New Japan, AEW-thing and then the thing that me and Malakai are doing,” King explained, “we get to bend the rules a little bit without breaking them. But I would love for there to be some kind of quote-on quote-forbidden door opening to where we can all just go crazy and give the fans what they want.”
