It was over 900 days since Tommaso Ciampa got to hold “Goldy” as champion, but “The Sicilian Psychopath” got to do so once more on the debut episode of WWE NXT 2.o.
Ciampa competed in the the fatal four-way main event bout for the NXT Championship after Samoa Joe relinquished the belt on September 13. Ciampa took on Pete Dunne, LA Knight and the unexpected Von Wagner in the bout, and in the end, Ciampa pinned Knight after he hit his Fairy Tale Ending finisher.

Wagner nearly got the win off of Knight as well, but the chips fell in favor of Ciampa. NXT General Manager William Regal bestowed Wagner with the match due to Kyle O’Reilly being attacked by Dunne and Ridge Holland earlier in the evening. It was Wagner (formerly Cal Bloom) who was came to the aid of O’Reilly post-attack.
