Big E is going to relish in his WWE Championship win, even when he’s an old man looking back on his glory days.
On Monday, Big E called his shot and cashed in his Money In The Bank contract, defeating Bobby Lashley for the WWE Championship to close RAW. Speaking with WWE’s Kevin Patrick, Big E (and Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods) spoke about what the moment meant for him personally as well and doing it the way it took place.
“It’s the moments that I really treasure and I’m just getting goosebumps thinking about the moment,” Big E said. “I go out and the music hits, and that crowd, even though they’ve seen me a dozen times tonight, to have your peers and fans… [Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston run in on the interview and cheer emphatically] and these two jackasses, just to have everyone there, it means the world to me. I’m appreciative.”
Woods explained how Big E has been fighting a long time for this chance, noting that he looks natural with the title on his shoulder.
“It’s a meat show,” joked Big E. “That’s why I built it, just so I could rest a title on there comfortably.”
Kofi then praised Big E’s win and said he’s happy, and he doesn’t want to say it was unexpected, but the fact that the moment is a reality now is awesome.
“I’m so amazingly proud of you, you worked so hard and to have watched your journey and to see it culminating right now, this is just the beginning. It’s not over,” Kofi said, “it’s the beginning, dude.”
Big E continued, talking about how he’s glad he won the title this way, explaining how sharing it with his best friends was even more special. He said this is something that he’ll cherish when his in-ring days are over, but right now he’s still here and will enjoy it.
“I think the dream for anyone, any vocation or craft, anything, is getting to do really cool things to get to the top of your craft, but to do it with your best friends. I always tell this story because I never want to forget, I will always remember the three of us just fighting to get on TV, and we’ve been able to do so many cool and incredible things. I got to grow so much as a person, a performer, because of these guys,” Big E explained, “and I could not have written a better career for myself. I’m glad, in many ways that it took so long, because it feels earned.
“I’m glad that I wasn’t handed things right away. I had time to grow and to do all of the things that we had chances to do, so I got to live the dream. I got to be WWE Champion and my best friends come out and celebrate with me. We huddled and have these moments that I’ll never forget. I’ll be an old man in my rocking chair, ready to give up the ghost, and as I’m giving up the ghost saying, ‘Elizabeth, I’m coming home to see ya!’, I’ll be having flashbacks of being in the ring,” he noted, before joking about how his body will eventually break down. “When my pecs still sat high. I’m expecting them to be at waist level in 20 years or so, it’s going to be bad. I’m gonna need a bro or something, you’ve seen Seinfeld, the Manziere—but right now and these things are sitting high, I’m going to enjoy this one.”
