CM Punk made his highly anticipated return to the world of professional wrestling last month, when he showed up at All Elite Wrestling’s AEW Rampage. Speaking on the Hall of Fame with Booker T. and Brad Gilmore, Booker T discussed Punk’s abilities, and what he can bring to the ring.
“One thing CM Punk was, before he left the game was, he’s pretty good storyteller,” Booker T said. “He knew how to go out and sell. He knew how to go out and, you know, make the fans feel a certain way, especially when he was getting the hell beat out of him. He did a really, really good job.”
Booker T also touched on CM Punk’s willingness to put on a show and put his body on the line by performing, which he says is one of the most important things a wrestler has and one of the last things that leaves you as a professional wrestler.
“He put himself on the map by being able to go out and perform, and that right there, I must say, that’s gonna be the last thing to leave you as a professional wrestler,” Booker T said. “Your willingness and being able to go out and tell a great story just like I say, Shawn Michaels coming back after having a broken back, the match with him in The Undertaker in in Houston was, I mean, it was…it was Shakespeare. I mean, it was it was a story that was that could be told for many, many years.”
When discussing whether or not Punk is able to go out and still perform, Booker said he did, and that it’ll be the biggest question once he finally steps into the ring.
“So yeah, but I believe Punk can do it too. But that is that is going to be the question from everyone. Until they see CM Punk in the middle of that square circle…’Do he still got it?,’ You know, because that’s the question where the guy you know, been out of the ring for a while…I want to see if he still got it, and I want to see it soon.”
Thankfully, Booker T won’t have to wait too long, as CM Punk is set to make his long-awaited in-ring return this weekend at AEW All Out on September 5, 2021.
