Heels star Alison Luff compares the essence of the show to Friday Night Lights and says that she loves being able to represent the story it tells.
Alison Luff, who plays Staci Spade on the show, spoke with WrestleZone ahead of the series premiere and talked about how people will be able to relate to many of the same issues the characters face on the show, and how it’s got more depth than just being a ‘wrestling’ show. Staci is married to Jack Spade (Stephen Amell), owner and champion of the Duffy Wrestling League, and she has to deal with some of the fallout and the stresses being a promoter puts on their family.
“It’s what initially drew me to this script. It really is a Southern family drama and it kind of reminds me of Friday Night Lights and the fact that you don’t have to love football to love that show. These characters are so well developed. The story is so well developed, and you feel like you know who these people are and you feel like you live in this town, and I think that the trauma that all of these individuals face and all these hardships and challenges they’re up against—they’re challenges that so many of us face. Like, who hasn’t had a moment in their life where they worry about money or they’re at odds or they don’t feel like they’re being heard by their partner? So, I love representing that aspect of the show.”
Heels premieres on STARZ on Sunday, August 15.
