Saliva frontman Bobby Amaru says there’s a new version of Batista‘s theme song that’s been recorded, but it hasn’t been released to the public.
Amaru recently spoke with Jim Alexander on his Reel Talk podcast and talked about Saliva’s relationship with WWE in the early 2000s. The band not only recorded Batista’s theme song (“I Walk Alone”), but they also contributed the ECW theme song “Don’t Question My Heart” as well as the WrestleMania 23 theme song (“Ladies and Gentlemen”).
“I think that was a huge platform for them [WWE] as well, reaching a whole new audience. There are people who come to shows and say, ‘I only know you guys because of wrestling’ or ‘that’s how I heard of you.’ ‘I heard of you guys from this video game.’ The wrestling thing I hear a lot, we hear it all the time. It just shows you—wrestling is kinda like MTV in a way, people discovering your band. The connection between that, wrestling helped out a lot of rock bands, and not just [them] but artists in general. In the rock department, there are a lot of bands that did a lot for wrestling and Saliva was one of the bigger acts that got lucky with doing songs for people like Batista and we did a song for [Chris] Jericho one time. We were on WrestleMania, so we had some success in that department and it’s all humbling.”
Asking a follow-up about possibly collaborating with WWE again, Amaru says they re-recorded a new version of Batista’s theme song. He noted that there were other things involved, but they did record the track and just haven’t released it yet.
“They had reached out about us doing something a couple years ago. I think it had to do about re-recording the “I Walk Alone” tune and doing something else. Maybe it was “Superstar,” but I don’t remember. I don’t know what ever ended up happening with it, but we ended up re-recording “I Walk Alone” so it’s done, we just haven’t released it.”
Amaru said they’d love to collaborate with WWE again, then pointed out that All Elite Wrestling was based near his home in Jacksonville. He said the band is also “open to collaborating and working with wrestling in all forms.”
