Many fans have been speculating that Jon Moxley was setting up something with New Japan Pro-Wrestling this week during his promo on AEW Dynamite. A new report suggests that the former AEW World Champion will face one of the promotions top stars sooner rather than later.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, former IWGP United States Champion Jon Moxley recently spoke with AEW President Tony Khan about working with one of New Japan’s top names the AEW All Out pay-per-view.
During Moxley’s promo last night, he called out “The Ace” Hiroshi Tanahashi by name, as he will be challenging Lance Archer for the IWGP United States Championship at New Japan’s Resurgence show in Los Angeles on August 14.
While Jon Moxley competing with a New Japan talent at All Out isn’t confirmed, it is something that Meltzer has referred to as “likely.” The former AEW Champion doesn’t have a current storyline with another AEW talent at the moment heading into one of the company’s biggest shows of the year.
Moxley lost the title to Archer at AEW Dynamite: Fyter Fest Night Two, and he then made it clear that he has his sights set on Tanahashi with his promo on Wednesday nigt.
WrestleZone will provide more details as they become available.
