Alex Shelley will return to the ring this September, surprisingly not for IMPACT Wrestling, but for Black Label Pro and Game Changer Wrestling instead.
Shelley’s last match took place in December for IMPACT Wrestling alongside Chris Sabin as part of the Motor City Machine Guns, defeating XXXL. Game Changer Wrestling confirmed the appearance on Twitter this afternoon as he is scheduled to face off against Filthy Tom Lawlor for the Black Label Pro Midwest Wrestling Championship.
The match will occur at the “3 Cups Stuffed” event on Friday, September 3, in Chicago at the Grand Sports Arena. Tickets are on sale now.
Fans have expected Alex Shelley back in IMPACT for some time now to reunite with Chris Sabin to go against The Good Brothers, but apparently, that isn’t in the cards at the moment.
Alex Shelley explained earlier this year that his career as a therapist was currently keeping him out of the squared circle:
“Physio is my livelihood and career,” Alex Shelley said. “Wrestling is my livelihood and passion project. At my company, due to the volume of sick and injured patients we are in care of, we modify our COVID-19 mandates as needed. As numbers went up, so did restrictiveness. To circumvent the topic, I could not be at Hard To Kill due to my career. I respect the decisions made by our company surgeons and doctors: I look to them for advice and guidance. I am unable to travel and wrestle until I am vaccinated. I took every caution I could before, but I don’t feel right maintaining this duality unless I take every possible safety measure.”
If this match will lead to a more full-time wrestling return for Shelley remains to be seen.
