It’s hard to thwart the Cruiserweight cruise that Kushida has been on, and this Wednesday’s NXT was no different against a very game Blake Christian.
Kushida continued his open challenge for his title and it was Christian, now going as Trey Baxter, who answered the call after a brief video package. Baxter showcases his skills against the veteran and even got some real close calls against the champ. Not only did he sent Kushida for a bit of a powder, but Trey nailed an impressive springboard 450 splash for the near win as well as a top rope Spanish fly. Kushida, however, held onto his strap after forcing Baxter to submit to the hoverboard lock.
As the match was going on, Kyle O’Reilly sauntered out on stage to observe the action, and post-match victory he gave Baxter a pat of acknowledgement before selecting Kushida as his opponent next week. Kushida accepts O’Reilly’s challenge as it doesn’t appear that his Cruiserweight gold will not be on the line, but it is more so as a focus for the build of O’Reilly facing Adam Cole at Great American Bash.
