Jimmy Smith is the newest member of the Monday Night RAW broadcast team, and ahead of his debut tonight, Smith spoke with WWE about what joining the group means to him.
“Man, it sounds new,” Smith said when asked how he likes hearing his name alongside his broadcast partners. “It sounds like I’m just getting started diving into the deep end of the pool, man, but it’s great.”
Smith was then asked to describe his emotions heading into his first night broadcasting on Monday Night RAW. According to Smith, he’s focused on his preparation for the role.
“I’m thinking about my preparation,” Smith explained. “That’s always key every time I’ve done anything fighting, broadcasting, anything, you think about the things you did to get ready. And right now, those are the emotions going through my head, I’m thinking about everything that I did to get ready, all the prep, and that’s all going through my brain, but it all goes away when the show starts.”
Smith has a history in broadcasting, having most notably worked as a commentator for Bellator MMA fights for seven years. He described his experience working for UFC, M1, and American Ninja Warrior across a 13-year career. In the interview, he was also asked about which aspect of the job he’s most looking forward to as he begins a career in WWE, and Smith revealed that he’s excited to see all the storylines unfold right before his eyes.
“What I’m most looking forward to heading into the WWE is, A, getting all the storylines and all the characters and everything, watching them flesh out right in front of me,” Smith said. “I’m really looking forward to that, because I’ve been following the product, getting ready for this gig, and I have the same questions everyone else does, about how a match is going to end and what’s going to happen, and who’s going to go where and all these things getting clarified.
“To see that with my own eyes right in front, that’s an amazing thing. I’m really looking forward to that.”
