Rumor Killer: Tessa Blanchard Is Not Close To Signing With AEW

Tessa Blanchard‘s name has come up in recent weeks as a possible roster addition in AEW, but new reports suggesting it’s close to happening have been greatly exaggerated.

According to a recent report by SEScoops.com, Blanchard and (her now-husband) Daga were in talks with signing with All Elite Wrestling, and the negotiations were so close that it was “all but a formality” until it was done.

Multiple sources have debunked that claim, explaining that there’s no truth to the apparent negotiations between the two parties.  According to F4WOnline.com’s Dave Meltzer, neither Blanchard nor Daga has been made an offer by AEW and they aren’t close to signing. Earlier this week, Meltzer also addressed the situation on Wrestling Observer Radio and said “there’s nothing to it.”

PWInsider has also reported that after checking with several sources in AEW, there have been no discussions with Blanchard and Daga, with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp also reporting that he was told the prospects of bringing Blanchard into AEW is currently a “firm no.”

Rumors of Blanchard signing with AEW have surfaced before, with Meltzer stating in December 2020 that there’s no denying her talent and her potential value, but the decision was made not to pursue her due to other issues. In January 2020, Tessa was accused of using racist language while speaking with La Rosa Negra in Japan a few years ago. She would go on to win the IMPACT World Championship at Hard To Kill that same weekend, but later forfeited the title due to remaining in Mexico during the current pandemic. Tessa and IMPACT later had a dispute that led to her being released by IMPACT. She has only wrestled one match since last March, a loss to Kylie Rae for Warrior Wrestling in September.
