The Miz Recalls Botched Line While Promoting ‘WWE Diva Search’ In 2006

The Miz was sure he was going to get fired on July 10, 2006 just minutes after making an enormous mistake live on WWE RAW, forgetting nearly all of his lines while promoting WWE’s Diva Search.

‘WWE 24: The Miz’ is a new documentary that covers the career of The Miz and features a critical part of his career back in 2006. For starters, it was where The Miz got his first hosting gig for WWE. It was also where he would meet his current wife Maryse. It wasn’t all positive experiences however, as The Miz was under hot water for forgetting his lines live on RAW.

The Miz said, “There’s no cue cards, there’s no teleprompter. It’s just in your memory and you need to go, go, go. We were live, by the way, so you don’t get a second take. A cold sweat came over me and my entire mind went blank. And I could hear the audience, you can feel an audience drain out and know that you are messing up. The most important thing I had to remember was the phone number, and I forgot it. So, I looked on my wrist. I was sweating so much that it erased off my wrist.”

The Miz struggled through the remainder of the segment and then went backstage where he immediately went over to Vince McMahon to apologize. Miz said “I went over to Vince and I’m like, ‘I am so sorry, I apologize. This will never happen again. I will make sure it won’t happen again’ and he goes, ‘I know it won’t happen again.’ He took me aside, and said, ‘Bullet points, kid. You need to learn bullet points and I know you will do better next time because you’ll have to do it next Friday.’”

Former writer Brian Gewirtz said the promo was almost like watching a shark attack. However, The Miz fulfilled on his promise to Vince McMahon, learning more about the business and becoming one of the greatest talkers the industry has seen since the botch in 2006.
