MLW Notes Tom Lawlor’s NJPW Title Win, Previews His Battle Against Marshall Von Erich Next Week

Tom Lawlor sought and achieved new gold this weekend and Major League Wrestling tipped its cap to one of it’s top stars. The former MLW World Heavyweight Champion and 2020 Opera Cup Winner won New Japan Cup 2021 USA therein making him the inaugural NJPW Strong Openweight Champion.

Lawlor defeated ROH’s Brody King in the finals of the tournament and MLW did a brief write-up acknowledging Lawlor’s major accomplishment before previewing his headline match-up against Marshall Von Erich on next week’s MLW Fusion.

“Filthy” Tom Lawlor has been on a hot streak ever since winning the 2020 Opera Cup. Now, the MMA fighter turned pro wrestler can add another accolade: the New Japan Strong Openweight Championship.

Last night, exclusively on NJPW World, the captain of Team Filthy represented MLW in making history and being crowned the inaugural Strong Champ.

When asked what’s next, Lawlor was not at a loss for words: “Tapping out Marshall Von Erich this Wednesday!”

Tune in to FUSION this Wednesday at 7pm ET on MLW’s YouTube Channel as Lawlor battles Marshall Von Erich 1-on-1 for the first time ever!

Lawlor has feuded with the Von Erichs for over a year now as he turned his back on the brothers and created a new “Team Filthy.” The story is that before the pandemic, Lawlor cost Marshall his shot at the World Heavweight Title by attacking him backstage and putting the younger Von Erich Brother on the shelf. Since then, Lawlor and Violence Is Forever have been a thorn in the brothers’ sides, but it ends up usually being Ross & Marshall persevering one way or another.
