In honor of Pat Patterson, tonight’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown featured a memorial, six-man tag team match that saw some former – and one current – WWE Intercontinental Champions team up to take each other on.
Ahead of the match, though, Big E debuted a brand new theme song, as well as a new entrance that called back to his former run in the singles division. Coming out alone, Big E returned to the chalk that he had previously been using, gathering some from a bowl in front of him on the ramp and creating a cloud of dust as he came down to the ring. Once in the ring, he teamed up with Daniel Bryan and Rey Mysterio to take on Dolph Ziggler, Shinsuke Nakamura, and the current WWE Intercontinental Champion, Sami Zayn.
The match itself was a brutal one, with each superstar seemingly having a feud going on with another member of the opposite team. Things ended happily for Big E’s team, however, as Daniel Bryan was able to quickly roll up Sami Zayn or the quick win late in the match. Following the end of the match, Dolph Ziggler was left alone in the ring after Nakamura and Zayn were tossed out, and Big E, Bryan, and Mysterio proceeded to assault him with their finisher before cleberating together.
