There were plenty of direct and indirect teases for wrestling fans who have been hoping for a bit of cross-over in the AEW product and according to Dave Meltzer, that seems to be an optimistic option the cards for Tony Khan.
Meltzer reports in his most recent Wrestling Observer Newsletter that AEW has the attitude of working with everyone and cites IMPACT, AAA, NWA and New Japan Pro-Wrestling as the likely candidates in contention. The former three have already had direct connections with All Elite Wrestling while the latter is one that sounds currently in development. Meltzer writes that Tony Khan has been keeping contact with Rocky Romero in hopes to bridge the gap between AEW and NJPW and the feeling is that seems more tangible with former NJPW President Harold Meij out of the picture.
Fans will note that Kenny Omega did tip his cap to his longtime rival Kazuchika Okada during his AEW Title match with Jon Moxley on Wednesday and the announcers did reference that connection. AEW has had a tendency to tease their toes in the New Japan pool when it comes to hat tips, ranging from Lance Archer’s rivalry with Moxley to even an on-air Hiroshi Tanahashi honoring Chris Jericho during his 30th Anniversary Celebration. It also should be noted that Rocky Romero recently worked with MLW in the Opera Cup and so did TJP of IMPACT. Although there has been no talks with AEW working with Major League Wrestling in any sort of capacity, it certainly speaks to the fluidity and willingness of each promotion being willing to work with one another.
