More cuts have been made by WWE and this time long-tenured ring announcer Tony Chimel was included in the latest set of releases.
Mike Johnson of PWInsider is reporting that approximately 10-15 staff members were let go on Friday mostly on the logistical and backstage side of the company, but Chimel was indeed one of the cuts.
Chimel first began a working relationship with WWE back in 1983 due to his ties with Gorilla Monsoon’s family. Chimel very much became an associated voice of the SmackDown brand in the early and mid 2000s. As of recent, Chimel was involved with the behind-the-scenes work as a production manager, but would make cameos from time to time, including WWE Network’s version of The Edge & Christian Show.
Another person release that PWInsider noted is Derek Casselman who was Director of Venue Merchandise for Remote Operations who has been with WWE since 1993.
