Renee Young appeared on this week’s episode of WWE’s The Bump. WWE SummerSlam was her last event with the company, so she reflected on her run with the company. Here are some highlights:
On leaving WWE:
Young: “Today’s day one of being unemployed. It’s interesting, it’s weird, yeah, it’s nuts. It’s not even set in yet because, you know, I got home yesterday, I was traveling all day and got home, was hanging out with Jon and the dogs and just, you know, sort of absorbing everything. And now I feel like okay, now what? Which is cool.”
On the fans’ support:
Young: “It’s crazy, like it really is. I mean, you’d think when you look back at eight years, and I know that I’ve had such a great thing with WWE and I know I’ve had such a great connection with the WWE Universe and amongst obviously all of our peers and coworkers and whatnot. That to really like read all the stuff people are writing and, especially on the internet, which is like a hellhole 90 percent of the time, so to be able to see this really affectionate outpouring, it really is crazy.
On the highlights of her WWE career:
Young: “For commentary, obviously doing WrestleMania, being able to call to be able to call [the] WrestleMania main event, actually got to open and close WrestleMania when I called it, which was really cool.”
“Also in Saudi Arabia, that was just a really great moment, I remember kind of waiting for that phone call, feeling like, ‘Hey, I think they might bring the women to Saudi Arabia and I think it’s gonna be me.’ So being able to get out there, obviously being able to call the show was really cool, and you know, I’ve been able to call Undertaker matches several times, which is like , ‘Excuse me ma’am? What? Crazy.’ But being in Saudi Arabia and realizing the scope of WWE and realizing like, we’re a global brand and the fact that there were kids and little girls who knew who I was and screamed to me as I was walking out to go do the show was like, ‘Woah, man.’ It just really put things into perspective and it was really, really wild.”
Young also discussed her cookbook and revealed that it will be titled, “Messy In The Kitchen: My Guide to Eating Deliciously, Hosting Fabulously, and Drinking Copiously.” Here is a highlight:
‘I just finished doing my cookbook, which I guess I can announce the title of, I don’t think I’ve publicly said it, but it’s gonna be called, ‘Messy In The Kitchen: My Guide to Eating Deliciously, Hosting Fabulously, and Drinking Copiously.’ So the book will be coming out probably not until closer to spring, and there’s gonna be like 70 recipes in there. It’s all foods and cocktails, I had a blast writing it. It was really fun to reconnect with the writing side.”
