Jim Ross says there are some people in the professional wrestling business that have not always been open to change but it’s about time they wake up and adapt.
Ross was a guest on last night’s AEW Dynamite post-show and he offered praise to the new tag team combination of Joey Janela and Sonny Kiss. Excalibur was going over the match card for next week’s show and Ross noted how the duo has been getting plenty of positive feedback on social media. He said other “old school” wrestling pundits might be slow to embrace change, but it’s time they did and added that Janela and Kiss’ strength was in how well they complement each other.
“Sonny Kiss and [Joey] Janela are getting a great deal of positive feedback social media-wise for their tag team efforts and I couldn’t be happier. I like both guys a lot; they’re both charismatic as hell and they were given an opportunity that I believe they both deserve.
“Some of my old school peers are not big fans of either guy and I don’t understand that. They need to wake up and see what year we’re in, but nonetheless, I like that team. Again, another great team and they’re just forming and they’re evolving. Who knows how good Sonny Kiss and Janela might be? I see both of them as being very unselfish and complementing the other. As we all know guys, it’s not always been that way in wrestling. You had one dominant partner and—you had [The Rock ’N’ Roll Express’] ‘Ricky and Robert.’ Ricky was a star, Robert Gibson was a star, but Ricky [Morton] was THE star of that team. So as close as you can get to that complimentary scenario, the better off you’re going to be. I’m glad that the front office is utilizing Janela and Sonny Kiss as a tag team and giving them some positive exposure.”
Janela and Kiss will face off with The Dark Order’s Alex Reynolds and John Silver on Tuesday’s episode of AEW Dark.
