Edge vs. Randy Orton may have been praised to steal the show at WWE Backlash, but another bout of banter happened to be Drew McIntyre and his successful WWE Title defense against Bobby Lashley, and there may be good reason for that.
According to sources from Louis Dangoor over at WrestleTalk, due to Drew and Bobby’s time together in IMPACT Wrestling, the two have previously enjoyed one another’s ring work and both men thought it would be beneficial for them to lock horns once more after WrestleMania so they pitched the idea to WWE officials. It should be noted that McIntyre ended up losing the TNA World Heavyweight Title to Lashley four years ago at Slammiversary 2016 so there was something the two could build off of.
Another advocate for the two’s burgeoning feud was former RAW creative director Paul Heyman who has been a big fan of both McIntyre and Lashley. Heyman’s been well aware of Lashley’s abilities since having him on the rebranded ECW and it so happens Paul provided an impact on the pacing of the two’s match at Backlash with the finish being more in line with Vince McMahon’s tastes, according to WrestleTalk’s sources.
