One of the biggest stars on WWE’s black and gold brand these days is Matt Riddle. He’s one half of the NXT Tag Team Champs with Pete Dunne and currently teaming with Timothy Thatcher in Dunne’s absence. His segments have been a highlight for months, and this new team put him in even more of a spotlight. In a conversation with Sportskeeda Wrestling, Riddle shared how his team came together behind the scenes and what they almost ended up calling it.
If you remember, Matt Riddle was slated to be in the most recent edition of War Games but faced Finn Balor instead due to Johnny Gargano’s injury. This set him on a path to nowhere booking-wise, the same spot where Pete Dunne found himself at the time. “I think I saw the two of us and were like, “Hey, let’s put a random team together for the Dusty Cup”, which they did, and see what happens. We did it, we won. And unlike other teams in the past, we won and then we won the titles. So, you know, it came to be randomly, and I liked the idea, Pete was down.”
Dubbed the Broserweights, the odd couple pairing almost went by an arguably more clever moniker: Joint Manipulation. “A very close second. Me and Pete both have a pretty good submission game. Of course, he works the hands and does a little bit more. But the combo was… It was just a money name.”
