IMPACT Wrestling has announced that they will be bringing back their Gut Check tryout series and the first segment will air next week.
The first Gut Check was hosted in 2004 when IMPACT was still known as TNA Wrestling, and the two winners were awarded a cash prize and appearance on TNA TV.
Later, the segment moved to IMPACT TV in 2012, where it aired as a featured segment on the company’s monthly “Open Fight Night” themed episodes. The competition has seen several rule changes, but mostly consisted of a tryout wrestling match on the show being graded by three judges. Ric Flair, Al Snow and Bruce Prichard served as judges, with Taz later taking Flair’s place before he was replaced by OVW’s Danny Davis.
Notable names that competed on Gut Check include Joey Ryan, Brian Cage, Samuel Shaw (NXT’s Dexter Lumis), Taeler Hendrix, Christian York, Ivelisse and Adam Pearce.
Gut Check was also the theme of a 2015 One Night Only pay-per-view but the original rules were ignored.
