Jeanie Buss Gets Commemorative WOW Title
AXS TV sent out a press release announcing that WOW Champion Tessa Blanchard & Founder David McLane honored WOW owner Jeanie Buss with a commemorative championship belt.
Here are the details:
Los Angeles – September 4, 2019 – Since making its debut on AXS TV in January, the popular all-female pro wrestling series WOW – Women Of Wrestling has quickly established itself as one of the Network’s most popular programs, making history as AXS TV’s highest-performing original series among live viewers. WOW and Los Angeles Lakers owner Jeanie Buss was a driving force not only in the groundbreaking promotion’s unprecedented success, but also in changing the status quo of professional wrestling, as a whole—providing fans with an alternative experience that elevated women’s professional wrestling by putting the focus fully on the female athletes who comprised WOW’s roster of Superheroes. Every aspect of WOW is a celebration of the unique personalities of the athletes, giving them a platform to put their skills on full display in highly competitive matches and compelling storylines.
To honor her achievements with the trailblazing promotion, WOW Champion Tessa Blanchard and franchise visionary David McLane presented Buss with a commemorative WOW championship belt in a special ceremony held during a live taping at the landmark Belasco Theater in Los Angeles. Buss humbly accepted the one of a kind name engraved tribute to roaring chants of “Thank you, Jeanie!” as McLane secured the gold belt around her waist, surrounded by WOW Superheroes Samantha Smart, “The Governor’s Daughter” Abilene Maverick, the Fabulous Lana Star, Fire, Keta Rush, and Stephy Slays, among others.
“Jeanie Buss has long been a champion of WOW – Women Of Wrestling, and now it’s official, our crowning of the ultimate champion of women’s wrestling,” McLane said. “It has been a true honor to work with her to elevate women’s wrestling and further expand WOW’s reach over the years, opening it up to viewers across the country through AXS TV and bolstering WOW’s prestige by signing top talent such as Tessa Blanchard. Jeanie is the industry’s leader when it comes to women’s wrestling. Without her support, women’s wrestling simply would not be where it is today. She is the Superhero of Superheroes.”
“On behalf of every woman that wrestles in this world of professional wrestling, we are forever grateful for Jeanie’s commitment to changing the status quo,” Tessa Blanchard said. “I’ve seen the changes in this industry, and I know the importance of her involvement. I’m proud to represent WOW because Jeanie fosters an environment where we all feel so special.”
The second season of WOW – Women Of Wrestling finds the popular series moving to a new night and time, airing every Saturday at 8pE beginning September 7. The new season features stacked shows packed with championship bouts, bitter feuds, and a single elimination tournament to crown new WOW Tag-Team Champions. Each week’s matchups feature expert ringside commentary and analysis from David McLane and Steven Dickey, as a slate of new and returning Superheroes vie to pry WOW’s coveted title from reigning champion Tessa Blanchard.
