Ken Shamrock recently spoke with Wrestlezone’s Kevin Kellam ahead of his Valor Bare Knuckle boxing promotion’s debut event next month. Shamrock talked about his pro wrestling career, where he was introduced to the WWE world as “The World’s Most Dangerous Man” and it was capped off with an Intercontinental Championship run and a King Of The Ring tournament win. Shamrock said he’s not opposed to wrestling again, noting that he might not step back in the octagon, but teased some future plans for the squared circle.
“I’ve got some things that are cooking up right now that will be announced in the near future—Valor, that’s our big thing happening now—but I’m going to stay busy. I love entertaining, I love being in the ring. Obviously, I’m a little long in the tooth to be going in there to do the MMA or bare-knuckle, so pro wrestling is fun for me. I get to go in and still be active, still be athletic, and be able to compete in front of fans. So as long as I’m able to walk and compete at a high level in that pro wrestling ring, I’ll continue to do it, just like I will continue to give these younger kids the opportunity to follow their dreams and become professional fighters.”
Shamrock also talked about the appeal of professional wrestlers entering combat sports, and said it’s something he’d be willing to recruit them for. He said people get it wrong when they think wrestlers aren’t tough, and said if they can throw a good punch, they’d make good fighters in the MMA world.
“Oh absolutely. One thing I think a lot of people misunderstand about pro wrestling—don’t think for a second those guys aren’t tough. Cause they all are. There’s some tough guys. And I’m not talking about MMA fighters, I’m just talking about [fighting in general]. So, just like with bare-knuckle, if you can throw hands, you can fight. So, yeah it’d be awesome to be able to get a couple of those guys to cross over and fight. It’d be great.”
