Brandi Rhodes On Focus On Current Women’s Roster, Scarlett Bordeaux, Where Her AEW Debut Ranks

Brandi Rhodes took part in a media scrum after making her All Elite Wrestling in-ring debut on Saturday night, and she was asked about the potential of signing a free agent like Scarlett Bordeaux. Brandi called the former IMPACT star a “great competitor”, but noted it’s still very important to build the brand recognition of the women on their roster right now. She said the door isn’t closed to anyone, but right now the focus in on making sure their current roster gets their own moments to shine.

“I think it’s very important with our division—because a lot of our girls are newer a lot of people maybe don’t have such name recognition—even with me I’ve been in the business a long time but not as a wrestler. So, it’s very important that everybody gets their moments and their time so that people can get to know some of these girls because that’s half of the – I mean, any sports industry you want to know the athletes, that’s part of why people come and watch the Jacksonville Jaguars. Because they know the players, they know their history, they know about their families. We want to be able to do that with the girls. We don’t want to have so many girls that we can’t do that. So if you don’t see a face yet it’s always just a yet. It doesn’t mean the doors are closed to anyone. It’s just the matter of making sure we build this division correctly and everyone gets a fair shake at presenting themselves.”

Brandi also spoke about where her AEW in-ring debut ranked personally, calling it a big moment. She said emotion played a big role in it, and she felt like she had the right mindset.

“It’s very big. One of the things that I do when I compete—and a lot of this has to do with the video you guys saw. The emotion there is absolutely real. I use the emotion to leverage my position this time, but it is real emotion. I had a bad habit of making moments too bright for myself. So I kind of pulled them back now. I don’t allow myself to be worked up until I hear the music. So that’s really just the most exciting moment ever because I haven’t allowed myself to panic, I haven’t allowed myself to say I don’t feel good. No, I’m just here and I’m doing my job and I’m ready. And then when you hear that music, something just swells inside of you and it’s like, ‘we’re on, it’s time, this is it, let’s do it.’ It probably ranks number two to the first time I ever stepped into a wrestling ring ever.”

In regards to wrestling more often, Brandi reminded everyone that she won her match at Fight For The Fallen. She said that puts a target on her back, and challenged the women’s locker room to come find her, adding that “we’ll see” who comes and finds her.
