On the latest edition of Busted Open Radio, Kurt Angle went over how his WrestleMania match with Baron Corbin came together. Somewhat unsurprisingly, Jason Jordan was originally slotted in as Kurt’s opponent. “Baron and I worked the program after Jason Jordan went out.” Kurt states that Vince used Baron as an easy substitute in his opinion, but it wasn’t a problem with him. “I love Baron’s progress, I love his look. He’s actually really good and he takes care of you in the ring.”
Kurt states that his match with Baron only occurred because that’s where the story was headed. “Vince didn’t know that I wanted to retire at this WrestleMania. When I sprung it on him, about five weeks before WrestleMania, I gave him a list of guys I wanted to wrestle and the person that I wanted to wrestle at WrestleMania.” He later confirms that his preferred opponent on that night would have been John Cena, but Vince refused to drop the storyline he’d been working with Baron Corbin to facilitate that match.
Kurt said that he respected Vince’s decision even if he thinks it wasn’t the right call. “Was Baron the right person? Probably not, but look at him now.” He goes on to praise Baron even more, calling him the “best heel in the business.” because he can make people angry “24/7.”
