Rey Mysterio recently spoke with Wrestlezone’s Kevin Kellam about his WWE career and his charity efforts with the Rey’s Fight For Autism campaign. Rey says he loved the opportunity when was presented to him because he’s seen first-hand how his character can make a positive impact and strong connection in children’s lives, citing his work with WWE and Make-A-Wish.
When talking about his WWE status, Rey said it feels good to be ‘home’ and added that the roster might be different, but after returning last Fall it only feels like he was on an extended vacation.
“I’m very happy to be back. It almost feels like I took a pretty long vacation before I came back home.” Rey said. “Without a doubt, WWE ever since I stepped foot in that company for the first time in 2002, it started to become my home. More so with this return this past September, that’s exactly what it felt like this time. It felt like I finally came home after being away for almost three years. Different opponents, different faces, different rivalries, and something to definitely look forward to for the rest of my term with WWE.”
Rey won the United States Championship from Samoa Joe at WWE’s Money In The Bank pay-per-view, but ultimately forfeited the title on June 3rd after being diagnosed with a shoulder injury. Rey says that while he’s been out with a slight shoulder separation, he’s optimistic and “looking to possibly return sometime in the month of July.”

Rey’s injuries have been well-documented over the years, including a number of issues with his kness. He says he’s had so many surgeries on his left knee that he lost track of how many he’s actually had, estimating “between 9 or 11” on the same knee. When asked how he remains resilient through injuries, overcoming the odds and everything in his career, Rey says he just looks at it as another challenge each day.
“I think every day that you wake up there is a daily challenge ahead of you whether it’s work, driving to pick up your kids, whatever the case may be.” Rey said. “I think we live with challenges on a day to day basis, but I think it’s something that we’re projected to do. For me, it’s always been a drive to be able to compete, to prove to people that doubt me and it’s a tool for motivation. You can become and achieve whatever you set your mind to, whatever obstacle crosses your way. If you have a desire to become that person, then it’s going to happen and nobody can tell you otherwise. Again, obstacles are just something that you have to challenge yourself with every day.”
