Shawn Spears spoke with Bill Apter at last weekend’s Legends Of The Ring convention about his debut for All Elite Wrestling during the Casino Battle Royal at Double Or Nothing in Las Vegas. Spears said his relationship with Cody Rhodes is well-documented, and he saw AEW as a new opportunity that he took advantage of.
“Well, it’s common knowledge that I’m good friends with an Executive Vice President, and I’d heard the rumblings like everyone else across the planet. I’d heard about the beginning of something special, so when the opportunity presented itself to be part of it, it just so happened to fall in line with my timeline of the whole 90-day [non-compete clause]. That worked out perfectly in terms of timing, so once one thing ended, another door opened and I dove through that door without hesitation. It turned out to be the best decision I’ve made in a recent memory.”
Spears also talked about being unsure of how the audience would react to his appearance, citing his injury status and time off as being a possible factor. He said entering the AEW locker room gave him an ‘overall feeling of excitement’ and said he felt like he was part of something big, and it is refreshing.
Apter then put Spears on the spot and asked for his prediction for Hangman Page versus Chris Jericho at ‘All Out’. Spears
“Nobody loves Chris Jericho more than Chris Jericho. He’s going to be gunning for it more than anybody else because he feels like he still has something to prove, even though the guy’s resume speaks for itself. I’m pulling for Hangman. I think Hangman has a chance to make himself a worldwide, global star in one match. That’s the match to do it in.”
