On being a role model:

“Leading by example is important. Representation is important to give African kids the inspiration to do whatever it is they wanted to do. I don’t think there’s a better story of the American dream than me.”

On his wrestling coach Larry Tremblay:

“It’s one of those things where I’m fortunate that that happened because meeting him, he kind of shaped my adolescence. He taught me not only how to wrestle, he taught me how to win.”

On his portrait being raised in Winchester’s wrestling room:

“It’s really humbling to be up on the wall with him because he paid the ultimate sacrifice [Glen Doherty, who was killed in the Benghazi terror attack in 2012, also has a portrait up alongside Kofi’s]. It’s way more inspiring than what I do. It’s just amazing because of how much of a high regard that coach holds me.”
