Lucha Underground Grants Immediate Talent Releases, Joey Ryan Confirms He’s Now A Free Agent

Joey Ryan posted the following message, declaring he is officially a free agent in wrestling:

It’s Official.

I am now a free agent. Free from any contracts. Free from any bosses. Free from any restrictions. The last few years of my career haven’t been without highlights (being featured in many major media outlets, becoming a top seller on Pro Wrestling Tees, shocking the world at All In, Main Eventing the Cow Palace, a role on GLOW, the growth of Bar Wrestling) but now it honestly feels like I have a new lease on my direction and where I’m going in pro wrestling. Most of my accomplishments have been fan driven due to the overwhelming support I have received so I just wanted to take a moment to thank all the fans who have accompanied me on this journey so far and hope you wil continue on the adventure.

– Joey Ryan

Ryan’s post comes following a report by Lucha Central that stated Lucha Underground has come to terms on the immediate releases of Ryan, Ivelisse, Fantasma and Kobra Moon. The group had originally entered a class action lawsuit against Lucha Underground’s production company, Baba-G Productions, and El Rey Network, and were asking for their full releases from the company.  Not all terms have been disclosed, but the class action suit has been dropped with the agreement that the four will be granted their releases and become free agents immediately.

Attorney Andre Verdun, the lawyer representing talent in the suit, said: “I’m honored to say that we received 100% of the relief that we were suing to obtain and four young talented wrestlers are no longer bound by an unfair contract that prohibits them from taking full advantage of their talents at the prime of their career. I wish them all the best of luck.”

It was also reported that Texano withdrew from his own lawsuit against the company, but it was prior to the class action settlement. Fantasma and also had an individual lawsuit against the promotion, but that was dropped as a condition of the class action agreement.
