Finn Balor was a guest on the Kris Fade Show while doing promotional work in the United Arab Emirates this week. During the show, Balor spoke about potential Wrestlemania opponents, his training regimen and much more. A few highlights and the audio of the interview appear below:
Who is his toughest opponent:
“Recently, it appears that – not necessarily Bobby Lashley, but the little fellow he has running around ringside, Lio Rush has been my toughest opponent. Because he seems to be causing a lot of distractions. I took my eye off the prize really. But hopefully, I can make up for that at WrestleMania. Maybe I’m gonna pitch Vince McMahon a rematch at WrestleMania.”
What goes through your head as you step out before the crowd:
“Everything kind of goes through your head before you step out. And then once you step out, you’re finally free. All the tension, the anxiety, nerves, they all leave you. As soon as you go out, you walk through that curtain, you feel the energy from the people, everything leaves me and I’m just finally free and at peace. It’s kind of the moments leading up to that that you’re second-guessing and questioning everything. Making sure you got all your preparation done, but once you’re out there, it’s just pure energy.”
If he felt like that before his first WWE match:
“Yeah. Definitely. My first WWE match I was already 16 years in the business, so it wasn’t, like, my first match. I knew I had done all the preparation that I needed to do to get there and to be at that level. Once I was out there in the ring I felt at home, because that’s the only place I feel at home is in the ring. Everything else is kind of a little bit alien to me.”
If he remembers the moment it all sunk in that he is a WWE Superstar:
“It still hasn’t really set in, what I’m doing. I feel like we move so fast in this kind of industry and this business that we never have the chance to dwell on what we’re doing. We keep going. Case in point, I’m in Dubai right now. Monday Night I was wrestling for the IC Championship. I think in the future I’ll look back and take it all in, but right now I’m just grinding, yeah.”
His training regimen:
“It’s not really a regimen. I just fit it in when I can. Really, the key is consistency over 20 years. It’s not something that happens overnight, so – I’m more interested in hearing about your recent weight loss and what techniques you’ve used.”
Finn’s response to a studio member’s weight-loss journey:
“That’s very interesting because I’m actually shooting a documentary over at WWE right now called ’35 for 35,’ which is one of WWE’s employees is trying to lose 35 pounds before WrestleMania 35. So that’s going to be launching right before WrestleMania. He’s going to knock it out the park. He is in the studio right now!”
Balor’s thoughts on dieting:
“All these kind of crash diets or fad diets – they don’t work for me anyway. I just find that consistency is the key and getting up every day and doing it consistently over 20 years has been what works for me.”
