We have some sad news to pass along. Dick Beyer, better known by his ring name ‘The Destroyer’, has passed away at 88-years-old. His son, Kurt, made the news official on Facebook:
It is with a very heavy heart to let you know that Dad — aka The Destroyer, aka Doctor X, aka Dick Beyer, aka Coach — passed away shortly past Noon today. He was in bed at home, and was surrounded by all of his children and wife as he slipped peacefully away. I will have more to share later, but wanted you to hear this sad news from me first. Thoughts and prayers are most welcome at this time. Peace.
WWE released a statement on Beyer’s passing, confirming the news. Beyer started wrestling in the mid-1950s and had worked for promotions such as Worldwide Wrestling Association (WWA), American Wrestling Association (AWA), and all over both Japan and Canada.
He went into semi-retirement in 1984 and began coaching physical education in Akron, New York. Beyer also inducted Gorgeous George into the WWE Hall Of Fame in 2010. We here at WrestleZone would like to extend our thoughts and prayers to the Beyer family during this difficult time.
