Mickie James has had an incredible career and has kept adding to her accomplishments in her current WWE run. In an interview with Chris Van Vilet, she discussed her Twitter feud with Becky Lynch, her career highlights, and All Elite Wrestling.
On her Twitter feud with Becky Lynch:
Relax, folks. It’s Twitter. It’s cool. She’s “The Man,” but I’m “The Woman.” Women have always been the dominant sex. If you want to do this “I’m the man,” thing, which I think went out in 2010, then go ahead. That’s cool but I’m a grown ass woman and I’m proud of it.
I love Becky, though. I do respect her. I think she’s fantastic. She’s extremely talented. I’m just better.
On WWE approaching her to come back full-time:
Mark Carrano called me first, and then Hunter called me. It was very unexpected. After I left TNA, I called a couple of times and didn’t hear back. I went and had my son, and I was totally okay with that chapter closing, and that’s when they called me for the Asuka match.
The drain of the pro wrestling schedule:
People don’t understand that this grind takes such a drain on you. Not just physically, but emotionally. It’s a lot. Especially if you allow yourself to be completely wrapped up in this world and you find your value based on what your television [position] is. You’ll never be happy or satisfied. Now I find my happiness in my music, what I’m doing in the ring, and being a mom. No one thing controls my happiness.
On All Elite Wrestling:
It’s great. Announcements are great. Competition is amazing. Everyone achieves higher peaks, we all welcome competition. It’s good for the boys, for my friends that want somewhere else to work. Aside from talk, I haven’t really seen anything. I love healthy competition since I already know I’m the best in the world.
There have been people that have tried and TNA did really well and I don’t know what happened.
Her three career highlights:
WrestleMania with Trish Stratus. Lita’s final match, and the cage match with Lisa [Marie Varon], it would have been Tara there [in TNA]. Those are the top three but there have been so many amazing moments. The falls count anywhere match with Melina. There was a match in Alaska that I had with Beth Phoenix at a house show where we had a standing ovation from Ric Flair, Triple H, John Cena, and Arn Anderson. I got to work with her so much that we knew each other’s body language. Got a standing ovation from the entire locker room. It was amazing.
