I recently spoke with rising ROH star Flip Gordon, as he continues to gain momentum in Ring Of Honor and on the independent scene. In an interview prior to his recent injury, Flip Gordon spoke about AEW, his time spent performing in the UK with Fight Forever Wrestling, his love of Japan and much more.
Flip spoke about how the end of 2018 shaped up for him, saying it’s been a busy and rewarding time:
“The last few months have been really good for me. I feel like it’s been a constant grind. Just when it seems like I can let up, it gets even busier. I keep wanting to do more and more, and I think the more and more guys that go on to do other ventures, it opens up more opportunities for me which keeps me pushing hard. It’s been great.”
Flip commented on working with Fight Forever Wrestling in the United Kingdom:
“It was a really great promotion. I think that was my 8th time over in the UK, and that was by far the most fun I’ve had going over there. The talent they brought in was top notch, and I’m looking forward to coming back over this year not only with Ring of Honor but also with Fight Forever again. They took such good care of me.”
Gordon also spoke about the ‘art’ of a deathmatch, saying there’s all different types of art, and he’d be open to the idea if the set up was right.
“This is art, and there’s different forms of art. I love all styles of professional wrestling. I love hardcore matches, and that’s why I was so excited to be able to work with Jimmy Havoc. Would Flip Gordon do a deathmatch? If the price was right and if the story was right. I’m not saying I would or wouldn’t do one, but if the meaning was there, then absolutely.”

Flip was the winner of WrestleZone’s 2018 Breakthrough Performer of the Year, and talked about how meaningful it was to be recognized by fans for his work.
“It’s still kinda cool to me. The last thing I won was in 2015 when I won High Flyer of the Year for Northeast Wrestling, but before that the only thing I ever won in life was Most School Spirit when I was the mascot in high school. So to be recognized by the fans and for them to say ‘hey, this guy stood out to me’ means a lot to me. It means all my hard work wasn’t for nothing, and I really appreciate it. I do still consider myself a newbie, and this is kind of my senior year, my fourth year [in wrestling].”
In addition to being a rising star in the ring, Flip became even more popular due to his work on Being The Elite, and he said he wishes the group the best of luck with their new promotion:
“I found out at the same time as everyone else when it was broken online on Being The Elite. I think what they’re doing is amazing, it’s crazy, it’s never been done before, but I wish them nothing but the best and I’m so proud of them.”
Flip also confirmed he’s under contract with Ring Of Honor through May of 2020, and said he’s focused on competing there as well as internationally:
“Right now I’m under contract with Ring of Honor til May 2020, so that’s gonna be my main focus. Another focus of mine will be going back to Japan, as well as doing a lot more of my international travel. I’m still young and I’ve got a lot of learning to do, and that’s my main goal.”
