Jim Ross Talks Rumored Involvement With All Elite Wrestling, Extent Of His Relationship With Tony Khan

Jim Ross spoke about new All Elite Wrestling reports and rumors on the latest episode his The Jim Ross Report podcast, saying he doesn’t know what his future holds.

Ross has been connected to the All Elite Wrestling promotion since October, when he, Chris Jericho and Barry Bloom were reported as being involved in the new company. More recently, Ross’ name came up in a report from Rajah.com that said Ross would be working with AEW in an on-air and backstage role. On his show, Ross cited reports of his WWE deal running out this spring, but said that did not play a role in where he ends up in the future: (transcription via Fightful.com)

“My name’s been bandied around because my WWE contract ends in March. So what? I don’t know what I’m going to do. I’m not really concerned about it. I’m more concerned about celebrating my 67th birthday this week. I don’t know what the future holds. It’s not something I worry about. Many aspects of that are things I cannot control. I’m not going to invest a lot of time in drama and put my skin in the game in something I can’t control or influence.”

Ross also went on to say he’s met reported financial backer / AEW President Tony Khan before, but it was well before the All Elite idea was put into motion. He said he met Khan in Long Beach during New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s last event there, and said they had a few beers and talked wrestling, but only saw each other in passing at All In.

JR also praised Khan, calling him “very very smart. Very introspective. Very analytical. Very guarded and very prepared data wise, but he’s a huge fan and he has a unique instinct and perspective on wrestling.”
