Oops. Earlier today WWE announced on Main Event that Becky Lynch would challenge Asuka for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at the Royal Rumble, but that actually isn’t the case. In what looks like to be some mixed messaging, former SmackDown General Manager Paige is taking the blame for the announcement as she went to Twitter to clarify that the match isn’t actually official.
“I tried to make one last match before my time as [SmackDown Live] GM came to an end,” wrote Paige. “Unfortunately, Becky Lynch vs. Asuka for the SmackDown Women’s Championship is NOT official for Royal Rumble.”
So, it remains to see what matches will be made for Lynch, Charlotte Flair, and Asuka.
