Becky Lynch will get her rematch at WWE Royal Rumble. It was revealed on an episode of WWE Main Event that one of the main events for this year’s Rumble will be Becky Lynch vs. Asuka for the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship as “The Man” looks to regain her gold.
WWE Main Event this week mostly served as a recap show in light of the Christmas break for the company coming up, but host Scott Stanford mentioned the match being official after revisiting the triple threat main event at WWE TLC between Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch and the now-champ Asuka.
“The Empress” captured her first main roster championship when Ronda Rousey interfered to tip over the ladder that Lynch and Charlotte were fighting on, leaving the window of opportunity to open for a recovering Asuka to pull the strap down and become the new female face of the blue brand.
This announcement presents an interesting detour in the Road To WrestleMania as many speculated Becky Lynch to win the 30-Woman Royal Rumble to earn her next shot at gold. This match certainly doesn’t rule out a Rumble appearance for the Lasskicker, but is another curveball to keep fans’ eyebrows perked. (h/t to Wrestling Observer for the announcement)
