In an update to a story we’ve reported on previously about a new documentary being made based on the life of Owen Hart, the film will simply be titled ‘OWEN.’ The documentary will cover Owen’s life and legacy. The documentary has the blessing of Owen’s widow, Martha, who has often battled WWE over the use of Owen in certain projects and has consistently refused to give her blessing to induct him in the WWE Hall Of Fame.

Keaton Stone, a key player in the film produced by Curate Films, spoke to SLAM about the film and confirmed key interviews with Natalya and WWE Hall Of Famer Bret ‘Hitman’ Hart and a future interview with Mick Foley. Stone will also be traveling to Japan to get additional footage of Owen, who had a nice run in NJPW:
“It is official now as Martha [Hart, Owen’s widow] has posted it on The Owen Hart Foundation blog and I also have a Twitter (@owenhartfilm) that I’m trying to use to raise a bit more awareness and to hopefully find people who knew Owen during his life – grew up with him or wrestled with him — were superfans of his, etc. — and might have any memorable stories and especially any photographs or video footage of him,” Stone told SLAM! Wrestling via email.
The key is the family, said Stone.
“I have Martha’s entire home archive — hours and hours of footage and all her photos — but I’m trying to find as much as possible for the film to be as amazing as it should be in honour of this incredible man,” he said.
It’s “all looking very positive so far,” said Stone. “I just need to raise the awareness level a bit more and also find some amazing people / stories from around the world so that the film can contain a real international flavour.”
The goal is for this to be released for the 20th anniversary of Owen’s tragic passing at the 1999 WWE pay-per-view Over The Edge.
