WWE Obtains The World Wrestling Council Video Library

WWE Network

PWInsider is reporting that WWE has acquired the rights to the Puerto Rico-based wrestling promotion, World Wrestling Council. Launched in 1983 by Carlos Colon, WWC was known for it’s violent, bloody matches that included a mix of Puerto Rican stars and American talent that ranged from Ric Flair, to Dutch Mantel, to Stan Hansen and The Road Warriors.

However, what WWC might be most infamously known for is being the promotion in which Bruiser Brody was stabbed to death by Colon’s friend, Jose Gonzalez (known as Invader 1) in 1988. The follow-up of the incident is heavily criticized today as being flimsy and strategically orchestrated in favor of Gonzalez as his stabbing of Brody was ruled of self-defense by the court in Puerto Rico, which had no witnesses present to defend Brody’s side. Despite these allegations, Carlos Colon is a 2014 WWE Hall of Fame inductee.

PWInsider is also reporting that the library already en route to Stamford, CT and that some of the library, which is extensive, was damaged by the effects of Hurricane Maria.
