The Intercontinental Championship maybe third or even fourth in the pecking order of championships today, but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s among the most prestigious championships in WWE history. With a lineage dating back to over 4 decades, it’s safe to say that in the long run, the Intercontinental title has managed to remain second to the WWE/F Championship.
It’s a title that’s been held by almost all the greats – used as a stepping stone for further success in their career. The Intercontinental Championship used to be used as a prop to help a superstar reach the next level and for some, it would be the defining title of their career.
It’s obviously required to become a Grand Slam Champion, but these all-time greats, despite being established World Champions, were never able to capture the Intercontinental title.
