#5.) They don’t want the superstar to be bigger than the company
WWE is taking a very similar approach to the UFC. Both organizations have megastars that aren’t really as active anymore. Not wanting to solely rely on them as a massive revenue stream, they probably realized that it’s better to promote the brand as the “star” rather than just the star themselves.
Sure, they do have stars to promote, but the ultimate objective is to make sure that no star is ever bigger than the brand. Take WrestleMania for example. It’s become so big that it doesn’t even need major marquee matches to sell tickets anymore (though they certainly do help sell out faster). WrestleMania sells out regardless and that’s because the brand name in itself sells over the matches and the stars.
