Austin Aries had a strong run as ROH World Champion, ending Samoa Joe‘s 645-day reign. He would have a strong six-month run as World Champion and during the time, he was appointed as ROH’s head trainer. Who did he replace? None other than CM Punk, who had just signed a contract with WWE in 2006!
Interestingly enough, Aries would go on to lose the title to CM Punk despite knowing that he would sign with WWE. It was all a part of the incredible Summer Of Punk storyline that happened at the time.
